VC Law Enforcement Academy cadets with new patrol vehicle
Cadets in Victoria College’s Law Enforcement Academy will gain hands-on experience with a new patrol vehicle thanks to funding from the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Grant and support from the VC Foundation.
The patrol vehicle expands the academy’s existing fleet of police training vehicles used to prepare cadets for careers in law enforcement. By increasing the number of vehicles available for instruction, more cadets can participate in realistic training exercises that mirror the situations they will encounter on the job.
“Having access to this patrol vehicle enhances our hands-on training and helps ensure our graduates are well prepared to serve their communities with confidence from day one,” said James Martinez, Dean of Victoria College’s Division of Career and Technical Education and Director of the Law Enforcement Academy.
The vehicle will be used throughout the academy’s skills-based curriculum, allowing cadets to practice traffic stops, vehicle approaches, emergency response procedures and other real-world scenarios while becoming familiar with the equipment and operations of a modern patrol unit.
Victoria College offers two Law Enforcement Academy cohorts each year, with classes beginning in the fall and spring. Graduates who successfully complete the academy are eligible to take the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement licensing examination to become licensed peace officers in Texas.
