Two Victoria College students have been selected for a prestigious summer internship at Texas A&M University’s Center for Advanced Small Modular and Micro Nuclear Reactors (CASMR) in College Station.

Ryan Salinas and Miguel Santos were chosen for the eight-week paid internship, where they are gaining hands-on experience in a professional nuclear science laboratory. The internship allows students to work alongside leading researchers, develop practical skills, and contribute to real-world projects in the field of nuclear energy and advanced reactor systems.

“This internship made me realize that I want to stick with nuclear engineering,” said Santos. “Getting to work on the microreactor and see its potential really inspired me. I’m planning to apply to Texas A&M for nuclear engineering and keep building the skills I started learning here.”

The internship was made possible through a new partnership between CASMR and Victoria College, with applications open to students enrolled in VC’s Process Technology Program or engineering transfer pathway. Both Salinas and Santos are currently engineering students at VC.

“The internship has opened my mind to the idea of pursuing research after I finish my bachelor’s degree,” said Salinas. “The experience also showed me that engineering is a collaborative process and that I can succeed in anything I choose to do.”

The program aims to support students interested in careers in nuclear energy and other high-demand technical fields. Victoria College continues to prioritize career-building experiences that prepare students for success in today’s competitive workforce.

“This is an incredible opportunity for our students to expand their skills and explore advanced topics in a cutting-edge research environment,” said Blake Brittain, VC Career Services Coordinator. “We’re so proud of Ryan and Miguel, and we look forward to growing this partnership in the years ahead.”
