VC’s Diego Guzman goes from asking for help to offering it

Diego Guzman at the VC Campus Former VC student Diego Guzman now works as a Financial Aid Counselor

Diego Guzman doesn’t have to look far for inspiration in his role as a Financial Aid Counselor at Victoria College.

He was once a VC student looking for the very guidance and support he now offers others. He considers himself lucky to have found it in VC’s KEY Center, which provides additional academic and social support to eligible students.

“The KEY Center helped me discover everything I was capable of achieving,” said Guzman. “VC gave me the knowledge I needed to succeed and helped me discover my passion for helping other people.”

Guzman credits VC with teaching him a lot – but the important lessons weren’t all academics. He learned to embrace asking for help, and now he is proud to be able to guide and support students with financial aid questions or concerns.

“When students come into my office, I know what they’re going through,” said Guzman. “I was in their shoes once. It’s an amazing feeling to be able to help others.”

Going from student to employee was an unexpected full circle moment for Guzman, but it’s one he’s grateful for. VC’s caring campus culture reflects the hearts of employees like Guzman who genuinely want to see every student succeed.

“You’re not just a number or another student at VC,” said Guzman. “People take the time to get to know you. It’s very welcoming.”
