A VC Process Technology student stands in front of the new 26-foot ladder
Victoria College has been awarded a Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) grant from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) totaling $227,050.
The funds will bolster VC’s Process Technology Program with the purchase of three items: a glass distillation column, an eight-foot caged ladder and a 26-foot caged ladder.
The glass distillation column provides a visual and hands-on experience with a common piece of equipment used in refineries, olefin units and other chemical processes. It also will allow students to experience manipulating variables such as temperature, flow and pressure.
Both ladders will be used to develop essential safety skills as students practice ascending and descending safely. The ladders also help students experience situations which will likely be encountered in process technician roles.
The JET grant supports 95 percent of the total project costs. VC is supporting five percent by supplying $11,950 to cover the remaining project cost.
VC was one of only 60 recipients out of a statewide pool of more than $15 million in available funds.
All three items purchased with JET grant funds will better prepare students for work as plant technicians or plant operators.
