Racheal Walker Wilkinson debuts children's book ‘Why I Do What I Do’
Racheal Walker Wilkinson, Associate Professor of Psychology at Victoria College, will debut her first children’s book at an official book launch event at VC’s Leo J. Welder Center for the Performing Arts on Friday, April 11, from 6 to 8 p.m.
The book, titled “Why I Do What I Do,” offers a unique and heartwarming perspective on the relationship between parents and children.
Wilkinson describes it as more than just a children’s book. She says it serves as a brief developmental guide, helping caregivers understand young children's physical, emotional, and social growth through interactive reading.
“As an Associate Professor of Psychology at Victoria College for the past ten years, I have seen firsthand how little expecting and new parents understand the importance of early parent-child interactions,” said Wilkinson. “There is a clear need for engaging, accessible resources that explain the ‘how’s’ and ‘why’s’ of child development.”
Wilkinson’s book was inspired by her academic expertise and experience as a mother of two. She hopes it will empower caregivers with tools to nurture positive developmental outcomes for their children.
