Public invited to VC Lyceum Lecture featuring author Stephanie Land

Stephanie Land, author of the bestselling memoirs “Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother’s Will to Survive” and “Class: A Memoir of Motherhood, Hunger, and Higher Education,” will deliver a Lyceum lecture at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 5, at the Victoria Fine Arts Center.

The lecture is part of Victoria College’s Lyceum Lecture Series.

“Maid” recounts Land’s experiences as a single mother navigating poverty and the challenges of the working poor, inspiring the award-winning Netflix series of the same name. Her second memoir, “Class,” chronicles her journey as a single parent pursuing a college education.

Land’s writing explores domestic abuse, motherhood, and economic and social justice, and has appeared in numerous publications including The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Atlantic.

The lecture is free and open to the public. Copies of Land’s books will be available for sale.

The Victoria Fine Arts Center is located at 1002 Sam Houston Drive. For more information, call (361) 573-3291 or visit VictoriaCollege.edu/Lyceum.
