3rd Annual Atlatl Turkey Turkey Shoot
Victoria College’s Museum of the Coastal Bend invites the community to participate in its fourth annual Atlatl Turkey Shoot on Thursday, Nov. 21 and Hands-on History events on Tuesday, Nov. 26, and Wednesday, Nov. 27.
The Atlatl Turkey Shoot is a free event featuring competitions in distance and accuracy using atlatls, a spear-throwing weapon used historically.
The event will take place from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and the first 100 participants will receive a free t-shirt and breakfast taco. All supplies will be provided. Practice stations are available for those unfamiliar with atlatls.
Participants must be 12 years of age or older. Those under 16 must have a parent or guardian present.
The museum’s two-day hands-on history event focusing on Native American Heritage will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26, and Wednesday, Nov. 27. Participants will learn about and celebrate the culture of indigenous people in Texas. Supplies will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
Both events are free and open to the public. The Museum of the Coastal Bend is located on Victoria College’s Main Campus at 2200 E. Red River Street in Victoria. The museum is open Tuesday, Nov. 26, and Wednesday, Nov. 27, and closed on Thursday, Nov. 28 through Monday, Dec. 2 for the fall break.
