Victoria College invites the community to celebrate Texas Girls in STEM Day on Friday, March 1 with a panel discussion featuring six accomplished women working in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields at the Mission-Aransas National Estuarine Research Reserve and the HARTE Research Institute for Gulf of Mexico Studies.
The free event will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at VC’s Health Sciences Center, located at 2200 E. Red River St.
Local high school students and community members are welcome to hear the panelists discuss their STEM journeys and careers. Participants will also have the opportunity to interact with the panelists, sign a “STEM Explorer” commitment certificate, and enjoy refreshments, a selfie station, and giveaways.
Texas recognizes March 1 as Texas Girls in STEM Day to celebrate and encourage girls to participate in STEM fields. House Bill 3435, passed by Representative Rhetta Bowers, established the day to promote programs, ceremonies, and classroom activities that highlight the achievements of women in STEM careers.
