Museum begins Spring 2024 Stormont Lecture Series on Feb. 3 with Historian Joseph Fox

Victoria College’s Museum of the Coastal Bend will kick off the Spring 2024 John W. Stormont Lecture Series at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 3 with Historian Joseph Fox presenting “At the Crossroads: Three Undertold Stories from Victoria History.” Fox will discuss significant, but little known, events that took place in Victoria.

The series will continue on Saturday, March 2 at 2 p.m. during the museum’s Texas Independence Day Book Festival with a presentation by Louise O’Connor, author of “Cryin’ for Daylight: A Ranching Culture in the Texas Coastal Bend” and other titles.

Additional lectures in the series are scheduled, as follows:

  • “Geoarchaeology – What’s it Good For?” presented by Ken Lawrence, Geoarchaeologist – March 9 at 5:30 p.m.
  • “Sky and Shadow” presented by Dr. Karen Hagan, VC History Instructor – March 21, 5:30 p.m.
  • “Prehistory in Victoria and the Coastal Bend” presented in conjunction with the University of Houston-Victoria Bicentennial Symposium – April 12, 10 a.m.

The lectures are free and open to the public.

The Museum of the Coastal Bend is located on VC’s Main Campus at 2200 E. Red River Street in Victoria. The museum is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is “pay-what-you-want.”
