Museum begins Fall 2023 Stormont Lecture Series on Sept. 21 with Doug Boyd, archaeologist

Victoria College’s Fall 2023 John W. Stormont Lecture Series will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 21 with archaeologist Doug Boyd . He will discuss the archaeological and historical investigations of the Tom Cook Blacksmith Shop and implications for ongoing research.

The series will continue on Thursday, Oct. 19 at 5:30 p.m. with Tim Seiter, a doctoral candidate from Southern Methodist University, as he discusses his doctoral studies in “The Persistence of the Karankawas.”

Jeff Goodwin, Director of the Center for Grazinglands and Ranch Management at Texas A&M University, will conclude the lecture series on Thursday, Nov. 9 with a discussion about the latest research on soil health and grazing land sustainability with his lecture titled “Digging Deeper: The Role of Soil Health and Grazingland  Regeneration in a Climate Smart Future.”

The lectures are free and open to the public.

The Museum of the Coastal Bend is located on VC’s Main Campus at 2200 E. Red River Street in Victoria. The museum is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is “pay-what-you-want.”
