VC offering Truck Driving course; full tuition available for Gonzales, Lavaca county residents

A Commercial Truck Driving course will be offered at Victoria College’s Gonzales Center on Aug. 17-Sept. 24.

Victoria College’s Gonzales Center is responding to the high demand for qualified truck drivers by offering a Commercial Truck Driving course Aug. 17-Sept. 24 in Gonzales.

Classes will be held Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The cost for the course is $3,780. Full tuition assistance is available for eligible residents of Gonzales and Lavaca counties.

The course prepares students for entry-level employment in the industry. Classroom instruction emphasizes safety, rules, regulations and techniques. Students will also experience behind-the-wheel driving at VC’s driving ranges and on public streets and highways.

Opportunities are made for students to meet with recruiters from the trucking industry.

Included in the course are Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) written and driving examinations at the Texas Department of Public Safety office.

Students must pass a Texas Department of Transportation physical along with drug and alcohol assessments prior to the start date of the course.

Due to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations, students will be required to wear a facial covering, have their temperatures taken and pass a health screening before entering the classroom. Social distancing will also be required. Capacity for the class is nine students.

VC’s Gonzales Center is located at 424 Sarah DeWitt Drive in Gonzales.
