VC offering HVAC, EPA Technician Certification courses

2010_04220073 Victoria College will offer two levels of HVAC courses this spring.

Victoria College will offer an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Technician Certification course and two levels of Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) courses during the spring.

The two-day EPA Technician Certification course will be held on Jan. 28 and 30 from 5 to 10 p.m. in Room 303 of the Conference and Education Center at VC”s Emerging Technology Complex. Students must be at least 18 years of age. The course is offered in cooperation with the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute. Participants will receive instruction in compliance with the Federal Clean Air Act and take the EPA Technician Exam. The cost for the course is $175 and includes all materials.

HVAC Level 1 will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Feb. 11-June 4 from 6 to 9 p.m. The introductory course will cover cooling and heating; basic electricity, air distributing systems, copper and plastic piping practices, soldering and brazing, trade mathematics, and ferrous metal piping practices. Students must first successfully complete the mandatory “Core Curriculum: Introductory Craft Skills” class. The cost for the course is $600 and includes all materials.

HVAC Level 2 will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays, Feb. 3-June 1 from 6 to 9 p.m. The intermediate course will include basic installation and maintenance practices; basic electronics; troubleshooting control circuits, gas heating and cooling; commercial airside systems chimneys, vents and flues; air quality equipment; leak detection, evacuation, recovery and charging; and fiberglass and flexible air duct systems. Students must have first successfully completed the HVAC Level 1 course. The cost for the course is $625 and includes all materials.

Both HVAC classes will be held in Room 104A of the College Services & Training Building on VC’s Main Campus.
