Hallettsville Sacred Heart took first place in Victoria College’s 2019 Welding Rodeo on Oct. 23 at VC’s William Wood Building.

Sacred Heart won over seven other teams competing in the event, which allows high school students to be creative with their welding skills. The teams were given five hours to create a sculpture with a Halloween theme.

Members of Sacred Heart’s team were Cole Bohuslav, Hayden Grahmann, Ryan Mudd and Derrick Janak. Calhoun’s Malachi Arriaga, Dayne Rangel, Radley Williams and Caleb Lehtinen teamed for second place. The Yorktown team of Dylan Yeoman, Jeffery King, Dylan Respondek and Seth Hahn finished third.

Prizes for all teams competing in the event were donated by Airgas.

Other schools competing in the event were Yoakum, Goliad, Gonzales and Nixon-Smiley.
