VC offering variety of industrial trades courses this fall

Victoria College’s Workforce & Continuing Education Department will offer Electrical Level 2 and 3, Welding Level 2/3, and Millwright Level 5 courses this fall.

The Electrical Level 2 and 3 courses will be held in Room 222 of the Industrial Training Center at VC’s Emerging Technology Complex, located at 7403 Lone Tree Road in Victoria.

The Electrical Level 2 Course will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays from Aug. 5 to Dec. 2. The course will cover alternating current; motors theory and application; circuit breakers and fuses; conductor installations, terminations and splices; conduit bending; grounding and bonding; and pull and junction boxes. The cost for the course is $650 and includes materials and textbook. The prerequisite for the course is successful completion of Electrical Level 1.

The Electrical Level 3 Course will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays from Aug. 6 to Nov. 21. The course will include advanced controls, fire alarm systems, HVAC controls, heat tracing, freeze protection, motor operation and maintenance, medium-voltage terminations/splices, and specialty transformers. The cost for the course is $700 and includes materials and textbook. The prerequisite for the course is successful completion of Electrical Level 2.

The Welding Level 2/3 course will meet from 6 to 10 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from Aug. 12 to Jan. 15 at VC’s Liberty Street Industrial Training Center, located at 1404 N. Liberty Street in Victoria. The course is an intermediate study of welding and combines certifications for both Level 2 and 3. The cost for the course is $2,300 and includes materials and textbook. The prerequisite for the course is successful completion of Welding Level 1.

The Millwright Level 5 Course will meet from 6 to 10 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays from Aug. 26 to Nov. 18 in Room 225 of the Industrial Training Center at VC’s Emerging Technology Complex. The course will provide an advanced study of millwright: performing reverse alignment, laser alignment, advanced blueprint reading, optical alignment, turbines, installing electric motors, preventative and predictive maintenance, and vibration analysis. The cost for the course is $900 and includes materials and textbook. The prerequisite for the course is successful completion of Millwright Level 4.
