VC signs Corpus Christi Ray’s Velasquez

Velasquez Basketball Signing Corpus Christi Ray’s John Velasquez signs a letter of intent to play basketball at Victoria College.

CORPUS CHRISTI – The Victoria College Pirates added the second player to their basketball roster Wednesday as Corpus Christi Ray guard John Velasquez signed a letter of intent.

Velasquez helped Ray win the District 30-5A title and advance to the regional quarterfinals. Earlier on Wednesday, VC signed Edna point guard Khaliyl Barnes.

Victoria College announced in October that it will rejoin the NJCAA for the 2019-20 season. The Pirates last competed in the NJCAA in 1970.

“I am excited to be able to play at the next level and be a part of a new program,” Velasquez said. “We will be able to learn and grow together.”
