TSI Assessment 2.0

Register for the TSI:

1. Visit VC Main Campus RegisterBlast or VC Gonzales Center RegisterBlast 
2. Scroll down and choose an exam in drop down box.
3. Scroll down and choose Date/Time in drop down boxes.
4. Fill in the test taker with the required information.
5. Agree to the acknowledgement and add to cart.
6. Your exam fees will appear, verify, and click "Ready to check out?"

4. Read the information for your test, complete any required information and then click Continue.
5. Look for the green check mark and the message, "Your appointment has been confirmed!" and click the Print Confirmation button

Tip: Any tests taken at the Testing Center, except for SAT and  ACT will be scheduled through this online system. Be sure to remember your username and password. You can log in as a Returning User in the future.

Fees:

• TSI Assessment: $15.50 (Non-Refundable Fee)
• TSI Assessment Retake: $15.50 (Non-Refundable Fee)

Note: If paying with cash, check, money order, or third-party payment, please visit the Payments Office (Building #8 on VC's Campus Map) or stop by the Gonzales Center to pay for your exam. You can contact the Payments Office at (361) 485-6840 or the Gonzales Center at (830) 857-6254.

Not all Texas college students have to take TSIA2. If you’ve met college readiness standards on a standardized test like the SAT or successfully completed a high school college preparatory course, you may be exempt.

You do not have to take the TSI Assessment if you:

• Graduated college with an associate or bachelor’s degree; or
• Have earned a C or higher in a college-level course at an accredited institution. The course must be equivalent to a VC course on the approved VC TSI course list.
• Previously attended college and have been determined to have met college readiness standards by that institution; or
• Are student who is enrolling in a Level 1 certificate program and are taking courses ONLY in the certificate award plan; or
• Are serving on active duty as a member of the armed forces of the United States, the Texas National Guard, or as a member of a reserve component of the armed forces of the United States and have been serving for at least three years preceding enrollment; or
• On or after August 1, 1990, were honorably discharged, retired, or released from active duty as a member of the armed forces of the United States or the Texas National Guard or service as a member of a reserve component of the armed forces of the United States.
• You have completed the SAT, ACT, or other approved assessment exam with the minimum score needed for TSI exemption.

The following tests can be used to exempt you from one or more parts of the TSI Assessment. 

Note: Mixing or combining scores from the SAT administered prior to March 2016 and the SAT administered March 2016 and later, is not allowable.

Once you receive your scores, a great next step is to share your scores with your advisor. Together you can discuss your scores and what classes you are eligible for, in order to determine what's best for you.

How can I get my TSI scores?

You will receive your scores for the TSIA2 immediately after testing.

What does my score mean?

Your TSIA2 scores are used to determine if you are ready for college level coursework so that you can be placed in appropriate courses that match your achievement level. 

You're considered college ready in English Language Arts and Reading (ELAR) in two ways:

1. If you score in the range of 945-990 on the multiple choice CRC Test and a 5 or higher on the Essay Test, or
2. If you score below 945 on the multiple-choice CRC Test, but receive a diagnostic level of 5 or higher on the Diagnostic Test and a 5 or higher on the Essay Test.

You're considered college ready in Math in two ways:

1. If you score in the range of 950-990 on the CRC Test or
2. If you score below 950 on the CRC Test but receive a diagnostic level of 6 on the Diagnostic Test.

If you would like Victoria College to retrieve your TSI Assessment scores taken at another testing site outside of Victoria College, but within the State of Texas, please complete the TSI Assessment Cross Institutional Reporting form.

If you lose your Score Report you can visit the Accuplacer Student Portal and have your results emailed to you. You can also come by the Testing Center with a valid photo ID and we can reprint them for you.

The Texas Success Initiative Assessment 2.0 (TSIA2) is a series of placement tests for students enrolling in public colleges and universities in Texas. The tests help Texas schools determine whether you’re ready for college-level courses in English language arts and reading (ELAR) and mathematics.

If you’re not ready for college-level courses, the tests help determine what types of courses or interventions will best prepare you for college-level work. You take TSIA2 tests on a computer and will receive your results immediately after you finish the test.

Victoria College Adult Education, offers Pirate Prep. This is a free class for current or incoming Victoria College students who would like to prepare for college enrollment, and/or increase skills for the TSIA2 exam.

• I acknowledge that it is my responsibility to communicate with my instructor the date and time of my scheduled exam.
• I acknowledge that I will need to bring a valid physical photo identification with me on exam day (Driver's License, Passport, Military ID, Tribal ID, or a State/National/Province ID).
• I acknowledge that I must arrive at least 15 minutes prior to my scheduled exam time.
• I acknowledge that once I am checked in, if I do not leave all personal belongings in my vehicle, I will be required to store all electronic devices that are powered off and personal items in a secure locker or approved area prior to and during testing. The Testing Center is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
• I acknowledge that I cannot bring food, drink, gum, electronic devices, cell phones, smart watches, hats or caps, sunglasses, purses or backpacks into the testing room. Lockers or approved storage area will be available for belongings.
• I acknowledge that testing candidates are the only ones allowed in the Testing Center. I also acknowledge that children are not allowed to be unattended outside of the Testing Center or any other area of the college during testing. Please refer to the Victoria College Student Handbook, page 51.
• I acknowledge that if I need to retake a VC Exam, I must seek instructor approval and I am responsible for scheduling the new exam according to the Testing Center policy.
• I acknowledge that I am aware that some test administrations may not be available during campus closures or final exam testing.
