The public is invited to VC's Spring 2024 John W. Stormont Lecture Series at the Museum of the Coastal Bend. The Series kicks off with a presentation by Joseph Fox at 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 3. 

Joseph Fox, historian, presents At the Crossroads: Three Undertold Stories from Victoria History. Fox discusses significant, but little-known, events that took place in Victoria, TX.

Join Joe as he relates three stories:

1. The Republic of the Rio Grande- A city founder and other Victorians joining in an effort with Mexican Federalists to start a country with Laredo as the capital

2. The Trial of Dennis Chapin- One of the founders of Edinburg, TX shot a man in a San Antonio saloon leading to a trial in Victoria  

3. The Great Guinea Glide- What was a fun event at Victoria's Armadillo Fest in Riverside Park turns into a animal rights disaster but also why there are Guinea's today in Old Victoria.

Joseph Fox is a 7th Grade Texas History teacher at Rockport-Fulton Middle School. He has both a Bachelor's and Master's degree from Texas State University-San Marcos where he completed a thesis on the connection between the Lone Star Brewing Company's connection to the 1970s Progressive Country music scene in Austin, Texas. He has deep experience as a history educator by working at Victoria East High School, the Museum of South Texas History in Edinburg, and the Fulton Mansion in Rockport.
