VC’s Law Enforcement Academy grads honored during ceremony

Law 2 Victoria College’s Fall 2019 graduates of the Law Enforcement Academy’s 95th Basic Peace Officer Certification Class were honored on Dec. 11 with a ceremony at VC’s Emerging Technology Complex.

Nineteen Victoria College Law Enforcement Academy cadets were honored on Dec. 11 at VC’s Emerging Technology Complex for completing the 95th Basic Peace Officer Certification Class.

Victoria College President David Hinds welcomed guests to the ceremony. The Victoria County Sheriff’s Office Color Guard presented the colors, and Robert Bridges, Beeville chief of police, was the keynote speaker for the event.

Tammy Oliver was named the class valedictorian. Terrence Wilkinson received the John Baylor Award for Outstanding Achievement. The award is named in honor of the former Victoria Police Department officer and given to the “most outstanding student” as selected by class instructors.

Other graduates honored at the event were Aaron Holley, Natalia Gonzales, Jeremiah Cantu, Devon Moore, Christopher Rodriguez, Joel Stevens, Jade Bailey, Terrence Wilkinson, Jordan Trevino, Ryan Vasquez, Eric Long, Tammy Oliver and Aaron Smalley, all of Victoria; Stephanie Martin and Colton Rodriguez of Beeville; Darrance James and Caesar Martinez of Gonzales; Santa Nino of Weimar; and Taylor Herrera of Port Lavaca.

Successful completion of the Basic Peace Officer Certification Class allows students to take the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) examination to become a certified peace officer in Texas.

VC offers two academies a year – one during the fall semester and another during the spring semester. Both academies are held Monday through Friday with classes meeting 8 to 10 hours a day.
