Victoria College will partner with the Texas A&M Agrilife Extension and the Texas Master Naturalist Mid-Coast Chapter to present a week of education and fun for children ages 5 to 12 with Kids College on June 25-28 at VC’s Emerging Technology Complex.
“We are excited to team with Texas A&M Agrilife Extension and Texas Master Naturalist Mid-Coast Chapter to educate the children on nutrition and garden science and how to identify and appreciate the Texas’ native wildlife,” said VC Workforce & Continuing Education Director Sherri Pall. “Early registration is encouraged as we expect these classes to fill up.”
The Texas A&M Agrilife Extension will conduct a Junior Gardener Camp each day from 1 to 5 p.m. for children in grades 3-6. Campers will analyze how plants support people and animals, explore plants that are eaten to remain healthy, learn the health benefits of eating vegetables and develop an appreciation for trying unfamiliar foods. The cost for the Junior Gardener Camp is $85.
Students in the Junior Gardener Camp can be dropped off at 12:30 p.m. and picked up at 5:30 p.m.
The Texas Master Naturalist Mid-Coast Chapter will hold three Junior Naturalist Camps. Children ages 5-7 will meet each day from 9 to 11 a.m. A camp for children ages 8-10 will be held each day from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The third camp, for ages 11-12, will be meet each day from 2 to 4 p.m.
The Junior Naturalist Camps will educate the children on art in nature, fishing and water safety, birds of Texas and creatures than can be found in their backyards. The cost for each Junior Naturalist Camp is $60.
All Kids College students will receive a free Victoria College apron.
