Ken Peach, left, will direct VC's Jazz Ensemble. Dr. Marylynn Fletcher, center, has assumed the position of VC Fine Arts Chair and Cathy Lowe, right, has been named an interim full-time music instructor.
Victoria ISD Fine Arts Coordinator Ken Peach will take over direction of Victoria College’s Jazz Ensemble for the 2017-18 school year.
“I’m excited that Ken is helping us with the jazz group,” said VC Fine Arts Department Chair Dr. Marylynn L. Fletcher. “He has directed award-winning jazz ensembles in the Dallas area and will be an excellent fit for our students.”
Peach will teach Jazz Class on Thursday nights and continue directing the Crossroads Community Band/Victoria College Band on Tuesday nights. The Jazz Class is available to both majors and non-majors.
“We are very excited to offer this opportunity to our students as this is a performing/hands-on class, which rarely will have lectures,” Peach said.
Fletcher became Victoria College Fine Arts Department Chair in May to replace Jonathan Anderson, who took a position as dean of instruction at Lone Star College-University Park after serving as a music instructor at VC for 18 years. Fletcher will continue as director of Victoria College Choirs and the Victoria Civic Chorus and will add Music Theory to her teaching load.
Cathy Lowe has been named an interim full-time music instructor at Victoria College. Lowe has been an adjunct instructor at VC and performed 10 years with the Houston Grand Opera.
